Eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Blvd. closed around-the-clock May 29-June 8 Date: May 29, 2026 to June 8, 2026 Time: 11 p.m. May 29 to 5 a.m. June 8 (around-the-clock) Activity details: Ramp closureHigh-impact construction Impact type: Around-the-clockTrafficNoise Description: Crews will use this closure to remove the existing off-ramp and prepare eastbound traffic to use the new, temporary off-ramp to Montlake Blvd. This work is part of the SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project. Traffic: The eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Blvd. will close for a major construction shift beginning at 11 p.m. on Friday, May 29, until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 8. Important details: The ramp will close along with eastbound SR 520 between I-5 and Montlake Blvd. beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, May 29. On Monday, June 1, eastbound SR 520 between I-5 and Montlake Blvd. will reopen at 5 a.m. However, the eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Blvd. will remain closed around-the-clock until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 8. Following the weekend closure on June 1, all traffic from I-5 entering eastbound SR 520 will cross Lake Washington and pay the SR 520 Bridge Toll with this ramp closed. Those who do not want to pay the toll or who need to access Montlake Blvd. from I-5 must use alternate routes. What’s happening: Crews will use this extended closure to remove the existing eastbound off-ramp to Montlake to make space for construction of new permanent elements for the future new bridges. We’ll need to keep the ramp closed so they have the room to bring in equipment to remove the old ramp and finalize the connection of the new temporary ramp to Montlake Blvd. What you need to prepare for: This around-the-clock ramp closure will have significant impact for travelers needing to access Montlake Blvd. and will require an adjustment to their travels. For those wanting to access the University of Washington or the UW Medical Center, you will need to take a different route. If you choose to stay on eastbound SR 520, you will cross Lake Washington and then need to turn around and take westbound SR 520 to exit at Montlake. Please note this will result in you being tolled twice. Potential alternate routes to Montlake from I-5 include: Northbound I-5 travelers Take the Lakeview Boulevard exit, just south of the exit to eastbound SR 520. Continue north past the exit to eastbound SR 520 and take the Northeast 45th Street exit. Southbound I-5 travelers Exit at either Northeast 45th Street or Northeast 50th Street and head east. Take the Boylston Avenue East exit and head east. Any changes or updates to this work will be shared on this page and in our weekly email updates.
