Traffic: The westbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard, and the left lane of the eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Blvd. will close between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, due to the 2026 Opening Day of Boating Season. What to expect: During this time, westbound SR 520 travelers coming from across Lake Washington will not be able to exit at Montlake Boulevard and will need to either continue westbound toward the off-ramps to I-5 or East Roanoke Street or take the Lake Washington Boulevard exit. The eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Blvd. will remain open, however travelers will not be able to turn left (northbound) towards the Montlake Bridge and will either need to travel south on Montlake Boulevard or continue east onto Lake Washington Boulevard. On Monday, June 1, eastbound SR 520 between I-5 and Montlake Blvd. will reopen at 5 a.m. However, the eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Blvd. will remain closed around-the-clock until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 8. Following the weekend closure on June 1, all traffic from I-5 entering eastbound SR 520 will cross Lake Washington and pay the SR 520 Bridge Toll with this ramp closed. Those who do not want to pay the toll or who need to access Montlake Blvd. from I-5 must use alternate routes. What’s happening: Crews will use this extended closure to remove the existing eastbound off-ramp to Montlake to make space for construction of new permanent elements for the future new bridges. We’ll need to keep the ramp closed so they have the room to bring in equipment to remove the old ramp and finalize the connection of the new temporary ramp to Montlake Blvd. What you need to prepare for: This around-the-clock ramp closure will have significant impact for travelers needing to access Montlake Blvd. and will require an adjustment to their travels. For those wanting to access the University of Washington or the UW Medical Center, you will need to take a different route. If you choose to stay on eastbound SR 520, you will cross Lake Washington and then need to turn around and take westbound SR 520 to exit at Montlake. Please note this will result in you being tolled twice. Potential alternate routes to Montlake from I-5 include: Northbound I-5 travelers Take the Lakeview Boulevard exit, just south of the exit to eastbound SR 520. Continue north past the exit to eastbound SR 520 and take the Northeast 45th Street exit. Southbound I-5 travelers Exit at either Northeast 45th Street or Northeast 50th Street and head east. Traffic: To help with delivery of equipment and materials, parking alongside Furhman Ave. just north of the staging lot is restricted 24-hours a day and 7 days a week through at least May 16. Please note: This area is heavily congested with multiple construction projects including the RapidRide J Line Project. Crews working for the Portage Bay Project are only using this lot as staging and are not closing streets on Eastlake Avenue or otherwise restricting access in this area beyond the staging lot and this section of parking.
