Traffic: The eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard in Seattle will close for construction beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12 and remain closed around-the-clock until 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19. During the closure, crews will use the new temporary off-ramp to stage equipment needed to begin removing portions of the old off-ramp closed back in June. Crews need to remove the old ramp to make space for another traffic shift coming in early 2027. What you need to prepare for: This around-the-clock ramp closure will have significant impacts for travelers needing to access Montlake Boulevard from I-5 and will require an adjustment to their travels. For those wanting to access the University of Washington or the UW Medical Center, you will need to take a different route. If you choose to enter eastbound SR 520 from I-5, you will cross Lake Washington and then would need to turn around and take westbound SR 520 to exit at Montlake. Please note this will result in you paying the SR 520 Bridge Toll twice. Potential alternate routes to Montlake from I-5 include: Northbound I-5 travelers Take the Lakeview Boulevard exit, just south of the exit to eastbound SR 520 and head east. Continue north on I-5 past the exit to eastbound SR 520 and take the Northeast 45th Street exit and head east. Southbound I-5 travelers Exit at either Northeast 45th Street or Northeast 50th Street on I-5 and head east. Take the Boylston Avenue East exit and head east.
