Description: Crews will use this around-the-clock closure to remove portions of the old eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard. This work is part of the SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project.

Traffic: The eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard in Seattle will close for construction beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12 and remain closed around-the-clock until 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19.

During the closure, crews will use the new temporary off-ramp to stage equipment needed to begin removing portions of the old off-ramp closed back in June. Crews need to remove the old ramp to make space for another traffic shift coming in early 2027.

What you need to prepare for:

This around-the-clock ramp closure will have significant impacts for travelers needing to access Montlake Boulevard from I-5 and will require an adjustment to their travels. For those wanting to access the University of Washington or the UW Medical Center, you will need to take a different route. If you choose to enter eastbound SR 520 from I-5, you will cross Lake Washington and then would need to turn around and take westbound SR 520 to exit at Montlake. Please note this will result in you paying the SR 520 Bridge Toll twice.

Potential alternate routes to Montlake from I-5 include:

Northbound I-5 travelers

• Take the Lakeview Boulevard exit, just south of the exit to eastbound SR 520 and head east.
• Continue north on I-5 past the exit to eastbound SR 520 and take the Northeast 45th Street exit and head east.

Southbound I-5 travelers

• Exit at either Northeast 45th Street or Northeast 50th Street on I-5 and head east.
• Take the Boylston Avenue East exit and head east.

Description: Crews will use these nightly closures to work on shaft installation for the future expansion of the Roanoke Trail Crossing Bridge. This work is part of the SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge & Roanoke Lid Project.

Traffic: The westbound SR 520 off-ramp to northbound I-5 and East Roanoke Street will close for construction from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on select weeknights beginning Aug. 19 until Sept. 3.

The currently scheduled closures dates are the nights of:

• Aug. 19 – 20
• Aug. 24 – 27
• Aug. 29 (Saturday)
• Aug. 31 & Sept. 1-3

Please note these dates can change. We’ll update this page if a closure is canceled or rescheduled.

During these closures, all westbound SR 520 traffic that remains on SR 520 past the Montlake and Lake Washington Boulevard exits will detour to southbound I-5. Those who do not want to head southbound on I-5 must exit at Montlake or Lake Washington Boulevard.

Description: Crews will use these closures to restripe the roadway and adjust barriers around the work zone. This work is part of the SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project.

Traffic: Both directions of Delmar Drive East between East Roanoke Street and 11th Avenue East will close for construction beginning at 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. nightly on August 12 and on the nights of Aug. 19-20. Signed detours will be in place. Local access will be maintained for residents living near the closure area.

Crews will close Montlake Boulevard between East Hamlin Street and East Louisa Street, as well as some surrounding streets and ramps, including:

• The Montlake Boulevard on-ramps to eastbound and westbound SR 520.
• The eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard.
• A 300-foot-long section of East Roanoke Street west of Montlake Boulevard.
• Lake Washington Boulevard between Montlake Boulevard and 24th Avenue East.

The westbound SR 520 off-ramp to northbound Montlake Boulevard will remain open. Crews will maintain a path for people walking, biking and rolling to cross SR 520 on Montlake Boulevard, with a limited detour south of SR 520.

Work during this closure

During the Aug. 21-24 weekend closure, crews will:

• Install three new mast-arm sign structures (two northbound and one southbound)
• Remove the large sign bridge spanning Montlake Boulevard just south of SR 520
• Mount new signs on the mast-arm structures
• Install a new southbound sign north of SR 520 that will be mounted on an existing utility pole

Traffic: Eastbound SR 520 between I-5 and Montlake Boulevard will close for construction beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, until 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9. All traffic from I-5 wanting to head eastbound on SR 520 must use alternate routes.

Please note, eastbound SR 520 is open across Lake Washington. It is only the section of eastbound SR 520 between I-5 and Montlake Boulevard that will close.

Traffic: The eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard will close for construction nightly beginning at 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11 and Wednesday, August 12.

All traffic from I-5 entering eastbound SR 520 will pay the SR 520 Bridge Toll during the hours this ramp is closed. Those who do not want to pay the toll or who need to access Montlake from I-5 must use alternate routes.

Description: Crews will use this closure to build a foundation for a future mast-arm sign for the Montlake sign structures work.

Traffic: Neighbors and drivers should prepare for Montlake Boulevard to be reduced to one lane in each direction between East Louisa Street and East Roanoke Street. Expect additional congestion and delays. Allow extra travel time.

Description: Crews will use this closure to re-stripe parts of the roadway near the exit ramps to I-5 and East Roanoke Street. This work is part of the SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project.

Traffic: Westbound SR 520 between Montlake Boulevard and I-5 in Seattle and all associated on- and off-ramps will close for construction nightly beginning at 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. August 10 – 13.

All westbound SR 520 traffic coming from the eastside must exit at either Montlake or Lake Washington boulevards during the hours this section of SR 520 is closed. Eastbound SR 520 is not affected by this work and will remain open.

Description: Due to construction from a nearby project, select SR 520 ramps will be closed over the weekend to facilitate the work. These closures are not part of the SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project.

Traffic: Ahead of the upcoming “Revive I-5” weekend closure, travelers should prepare for delays and consider alternate routes due to ramp closures that begin Friday night, July 10, until Monday morning, July 13.

Description: Crews will use this closure to remove graffiti and complete other work around the ramps. This work is part of the SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project.

Traffic: The westbound SR 520 off-ramp to both northbound I-5 and East Roanoke Street will close for construction maintenance beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, until 6 a.m. Friday, July 10.

During this time, all westbound SR 520 travelers coming from the eastside wanting to go north must exit at either Montlake Boulevard or Lake Washington Boulevard. Drivers who stay on westbound SR 520 beyond those exits will be detoured to southbound I-5.
